Working on your PC and surfing the Internet means leaving behind
traces of your activity - on your computer. While you might have
never asked for it, and probably without you even knowing about it,
Windows practically keeps a record of everything you've done
online. This information not only consumes valuable hard-disk space
but more importantly - jeopardizes your privacy.
Everyone with a little knowledge of Windows, can access hidden
history files & backup files - and see exactly where you've been
and what you've done online. This is a permanent record that keeps
increasing in size, leaving behind evidence...you might not want be
left. Obviously - the more of this stuff on your PC, the slower it
becomes.
Without being too paranoid about privacy, I believe that there are
things you should know. The desktop "Recycle Bin" (that little icon
with the trash bin on your desktop) is just what it says it is.
It's a transitional folder in which information is stored so it can
be retrieved and restored. Or Deleted.
And - and read this carefully - even after you empty the "Recycle
Bin" its not the actual files that get deleted. What gets deleted
is the pointer to their location on the hard-disk.
Five reasons to wipe away your Internet History:
- Information about all the sites that you visited is stored on
your computer. Simply clicking on delete Internet Temp Files,
History or Cookies will not protect your privacy.
- Every image that you have ever viewed, sent or received over the
Internet is stored on your hard drive. Be it personal pictures or
confidential business charts, these can be accessed by any snooper.
- There is a record of every program that you have ever downloaded
or used on your hard drive. What you use on your computer should be
your business and nobody else's.
- The windows "delete" button and the "empty recycle bin" option
does NOT completely delete your files. With the right tools, anyone
can recover removed files.
- Improve the speed of your computer and free valuable disk space
I believe sensitive information belongs at the shredder, and I
assume that when you "empty your recycle bin" or "delete your
internet history" what you really expect to happen is that these
files are deleted forever. Period. Thank you very much.
Evidence Eraser is such a "shredder" program - giving you complete control
over where and what gets deleted. It offers superior cleaning power
to cover more areas of your computer, eliminating useless files
that slow down your system for a safe, permanent erase of all your
history, hidden files and backup folders and such.
