Faltering PC performance is one of the most regularly cited reasons for people wanting to upgrade their computers to newer models. How often have you heard gripes of programs not working as well as they once did, or Windows taking a small eternity to load? The issue of enhancing PC performance is thus a much researched matter, and one which could still be spread a lot better to prevent people wasting money on new computers that they don’t necessarily need.

Enhancing PC performance is all about locating the bottlenecks where your processor can no longer handle all of the requests that are being sent to it. The problem could be simply that we’re asking too much of our home computer. We often see these machines as infallible creations that should be able to handle our every request. But every computer has its limitations and Microsoft Windows can have many if its been left to gather errors and damaged files!

However, consider first what program you’re trying to run. Is your computer powerful enough to handle the application? Are you running a bunch of other apps at the same time? In this instance, closing down any windows that you aren’t using and allowing more resources for the one program you need to use will go a long way. Don’t download from the Internet if you’re running a separate application offline. It WILL have a crippling effect on a system that isn’t loaded with RAM.

Viruses are another catalyst for slow PC performance, and many people turn a blind eye because they can’t see a big fat pop-up window to illustrate that the virus is running. These malicious bugs are designed to run discretely, often invisibly if you’re uneducated when it comes to the symptoms of a virus. Always browse the Internet with anti-virus software installed. It will stop you contracting the nasty bugs and malware that can grind a computer to a halt altogether.

Don’t leave your anti-virus program to gather dust, however. Make the effort to run regular scans in the event that it hasn’t fixed certain errors that it may have noticed over time. Force regular scans and make every effort to boot the bad apples from the basket. You’ll soon notice that PC performance can hinge on one virus being removed. The bottleneck on resources will be lifted and things will miraculously begin to function as they once did when you first brought the PC home.

PC performance can also vary according to how well the Windows registry is maintained. If you haven’t downloaded one of the free registry scanning utilities on the market, you should be asking why not. These are brilliant for searching your registry and correcting minor errors that may have accumulated over time.

Registry cleaners often come with a boot management screen too. These are great for upping PC performance from the surface view. By controlling what programs start when Windows initializes, you can ensure that you’re not wasting resources on apps that you aren’t going to use anytime soon.
