Getting the most out of your PC for speed and performance is one of the great challenges that come from maintaining a good operating standard – especially in Windows, which is notorious for degrading in quality the more you use it.
A slow PC can hinder the everyday tasks that we take for granted when we load up Windows. From checking our email to browsing the Internet, working in Office to printing a document – these are all tasks that can be affected by a lagging PC. It all hinges, to an extent, on the speed to which your PC is capable of operating. But thankfully, you’ll be pleased to hear that there are several manual methods of upping the PC performance. A slow PC doesn’t have to be a death sentence and a one way ticket to the nearest computer store. Here’s a couple of ways of fixing a slow PC and getting your operating system back to what it once was.
The first step should be to have a manual clear out of all the files and applications that you don’t need. Open up the Windows control panel and check your installed programs. What don’t you use anymore? Windows comes with a tool that tells you exactly how often you use each program. Have some programs never been run before? Are some only used occasionally? Consider removing them from the system to free up some valuable memory. At this stage, the different won’t be great. But every process that Windows doesn’t have to deal with, and every program that it doesn’t have to house, will inch a little extra speed out of the existing programs that are required.
You should also run a regular disk scan, and a defragging tool to beat the slow PC. These are very much overlooked features of the existing Windows framework which have been specifically designed to maximise the performance of Windows. For reasons unknown, many people still choose to ignore them. Running a defragging session, for example, can utilize lots of occupied memory and clear out any bad memory that was delaying system response times. By now, you’ll be starting to see a significant improvement in the speed of your PC. A once slow PC will now begin to operate as you’d hoped it would when you first booted it up.
To ensure that your system doesn’t revert to that slow PC, however, you must ensure that anti-virus software is installed and all traces of spyware are wiped clean. Spyware is a notorious system resource drainer. It will settle in the memory and leech valuable processing seconds while it tries to serve its own malicious third party means. You could be waiting for a page to load several extra seconds while a third party key logger tries to store your actions for the software planter’s own goals.
This kind of infestation is easy to remove providing you have a spyware removal utility kit that scans thoroughly for problems and deals with them accordingly. Not only will this improve the speed on a slow PC, but it will significantly improve your security when browsing the Internet and in general.
